A hub for convergence research connecting sports science and the local community
Hello. I am Kim Mi-ryang, Director of the SCH Sports Convergence Research Center.
Our center launched in 2022, creating a public forum where diverse disciplines meet through sports. Various fields exploring exercise and data in practice, learning design and technology, and human beings and society have learned each other's languages, building connections step by step. Our vision is clear: to realize healthy lives and a sustainable future through convergence and innovation. Our mission is to bring that vision into daily life, which means providing practical solutions to social problems through sports-based multidisciplinary convergence research.
During this time, we have planned, developed, and operated sports-based ICT programs, expanding connections with platforms, and strived to establish a research-practice-feedback cycle through seminars and field collaboration projects. With the local community, we have expanded life-cycle and target-specific models, including citizen health promotion programs, customized projects for regional revitalization, convergence education for infants, and training programs with welfare institutions for the disabled and elderly. In this process, we have steadily accumulated data and evidence, and observed tangible changes at the intersection of education, health, and welfare.
Our strength lies in ‘people’ and ‘spectrum.’ Beyond physical education, education, and computer engineering, diverse majors such as data science, health and medicine, rehabilitation and exercise therapy, and psychology and social sciences define problems and design solutions as one team. To ensure different methodologies resonate rather than clash, we establish common data norms and ethical principles, and incorporate voices from the field from the initial design stage. We will further refine the virtuous cycle where ideas originate in the lab, are implemented in classes and programs, and then return as evidence.
The Sports Convergence Research Center will continue to uphold both public interest and innovation. We will systematize joint research based on industry-academia-research linkages, verify effects through field validation, and sustain dissemination through talent development.
